Donabe Rice Cooker

Crafted using a centuries-old Japanese technique, this Kamado-san donabe yields shiny, fork-tender rice. Each pot is crafted from clay derived from the Ancient Biwa Lake Layer in Japan’s Iga region. Rich in fossilized plants and animals, the clay develops a porous texture when fired. This allows the vessel to emit far infrared rays, like the gentle, constant heat of charcoal cooking. What results is rice as it should be—glossy, fluffy and warm.

Why we love it:

  • Double-layer lid creates a pressure cooker effect that keeps steam from escaping the pot
  • Included rice scoop rests on the lid for convenient, beautiful serving
  • Darkens and develops distinctive cracks around the base with use, adding to the pot’s rustic charm

Kamado-sans will make the most perfect rice: toothsome, sticky, fluffy, shiny, bursting with natural sweetness, the best. Thank the double-thick clay walls that cook the grains evenly and the double-lid that works like a pressure cooker and keeps the contents from boiling over.  Don’t stop at rice. Farro, quinoa, wheat berries and many other grains cook great in a kamado-san.
